Scripture that encourages and empowers!

Here are some of my personal favorite Bible verses for battling depression. You’ll notice I tend to choose ones that are empowering and encouraging, and also recognize that life. is. hard. You might find other verses that speak to you and I’d love for you to share them with me!

In many early Psalms, the author(s) write of their anguish and, I’ll go ahead and say it, depression! They cry out! They mourn and weep. And they still loved God and saw his mercy and love. I find that so very encouraging.

Here are some of my favorite Psalms: 6,10, 13, 23, 31:9-14.

Other verses I cling to:

John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

imagePhilippians 1:6 “Be confident in this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Psalm 3:3 – “But you, o Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”

Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Philippians 4:7 – “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
